Exploring different sensory experiences is an important part of learning and development. When children are given the chance to get a little messy, they’re building creativity, problem-solving skills, and even strengthening fine motor muscles. A favorite activity in our classrooms is using shaving cream on the tables—it’s fun, inexpensive, and educational! Not only does it give children a wonderful sensory experience, but we also use it as a playful way to practice writing letters and shapes with their fingers.Because we love offering these kinds of hands-on activities, we always encourage parents to keep spare clothes at school so children can dive right in without worry. Getting messy is part of the fun, and we want every child to fully enjoy the experience! Please note: before introducing any sensory material that contains fragrance (like shaving cream, lotions, or soaps), we are always mindful to check for possible allergies. We also take a quick photo of the product we’re using, just in case a reaction occurs, so parents know exactly what their child came into contact with.
